Last August, the reunion of the families separated by the division of the Korean Peninsula fifty years ago
was an historic moment that shone a light on the hopes of South and North Korea wishing to become one.
In the hopes that all discussions between the South and the North will be able to end the pain of division
under the basic premise of “One Korea,” we wanted to create a song that everyone could sing with one mind and one voice.
We wanted to prevent the members of the younger generation who have not suffered the division of the Korean Peninsula to remember
the basic fact of “One Korea,” before they began to feel the discrepancies between the North and the South.
To achieve this end, rather than focusing on expressing the pain and the longing that have accumulated over the years,
we emphasized the happiness of meeting each other again, and the hopes that Korea will be one in times to come.
Under such objectives, we used melodies and lyrics that everyone across the border
could sing, and the song “We Are One, One Korea” was created.
We hope that people in the South and the North will be able to come together in international events
like the Olympic Games to encourage each other.
